Topic: Convergence, the Fourth Utility, and the Importance of a Robust Physical
Infrastructure
Cybersecurity is becoming more important as new systems and devices are converging over the network.
This convergence is highlighting the importance of the network and why it has effectively become an
utility. The term utility refers business that furnishes an everyday necessity to the public at
large, with the 3 traditional utilities being electricity, water, and gas. When you look at the
importance of the network to the functioning of both a building and even to society at large, it is
clear the network is now the fourth utility. All utilities need a robust foundation – and the
foundation of the network is a robust cabling infrastructure.
